A room has its own life: familiar objects, changing light, people coming and going. Scent enters this setting as another texture. It can bring warmth or openness, draw the space closer around us, or suggest something beyond its walls.
Even before a candle is lit, its scent may be noticed nearby, a small presence on a shelf or beside a table. With the flame, the composition begins to travel through the air, taking on a different scale and expression.
Like music, it can move between the foreground and the edges of our attention. We might notice a particular detail, then return to a conversation or the work in front of us. At other times, we simply inhabit the atmosphere it helps create.
Richness, with room to breathe
There is pleasure in a scent with many things to discover: textures that overlap, unexpected relationships, a tension between softness and intensity. A scent can have color and movement, with details that become more apparent as we spend time with it.
At MYYS, we create scents with richness, depth and an expressive character. Some elements give a composition its body; others bring brightness, tension or an unexpected turn. A small detail can change the feeling of the whole, even when it is difficult to identify on its own.
Within this richness, we value transparency. We want depth and fullness to retain a sense of air, allowing different textures to be felt. Some compositions are enveloping and richly colored; others leave wider intervals between their elements. Each finds its own balance between presence and openness.
As with music, volume is only one part of the experience. Equally important are the relationships within the composition: what comes forward, what quietly supports it, and how the whole holds our interest over time.

From impression to composition
Our work begins with impressions gathered from life. The character of a place, a color, a texture, a passing encounter: something catches our attention and stays in the mind.
Through composition, these impressions take on a life of their own. A detail may be heightened, a familiar note placed in an unexpected relationship, a fleeting sensation given depth. A flower might suggest a particular shade or gesture; a landscape might inspire a relationship between warmth, dryness and air. Each scent develops its own character, shaped by feeling and imagination.
That character finds another expression in a candle. In our studio in Karjaa, Finland, we develop our scents alongside our wax blend and wick, considering both their presence in the unlit wax and how they unfold with warmth.
In the early moments of a burn, brighter top notes may come forward. As the wax warms and the melt pool develops, fuller layers become more apparent, shifting the balance of the composition. The pace of release and these changing relationships are part of the work. We give as much attention to living with a scent as to the first impression it makes.
A life of its own
Over an afternoon or an evening, the scent unfolds alongside the life of the room. Light moves across a wall. A conversation continues. A detail that seemed delicate at first finds a fuller presence; another recedes into the whole.
What we notice belongs partly to the composition, partly to the circumstances around it. The same scent can feel different in another room, at another hour, or in someone else’s company.
Over time, that relationship becomes personal. A scent gathers associations in someone’s home that we could never put into its formula. They grow from the particular life around it, giving the composition a meaning of its own.
Four scents, a new chapter
The debut collection of our new chapter brings together Smultronstället, Fragmentti 1, Ruska and Kokko. Their atmospheres move through the intimate fullness of white florals, luminous tea and green notes, the dry textures of autumn, and the lingering warmth of a summer fire.
Each opens a different world of texture and feeling, with room for the person living with it to bring something of their own.
Together, they reflect our interest in the beauty of mundane life: how an impression becomes a composition, and how that composition becomes part of a life being lived.
